CORONAVIRUS - Statement on behalf of the League Management Committee

By Tim Mansfield

Current situation

The League Management Committee met on Thursday evening. We discussed the Coronavirus situation and following developments over the last 48 hours feel that it may be helpful for clubs for us to set out our current position.

We are monitoring the situation closely and following Government advice and like everyone else recognise that this is a very serious situation. We are conscious of the marked escalation of measures in sport over the last 24 hours and particularly take note of the Medical and Scientific information which is that the peak of the outbreak is likely to occur between 10 to 14 weeks’ time, i.e. 23 May to 20 June.

We understand that advice and guidance from the ECB is due shortly and we will respond accordingly. However, it seems sensible not to take any final decisions yet on whether the season can start on time. I hope that you understand the position. We will keep you informed if and when the position changes.
