....but travel to Kirkby on Saturday missing four key players

The forecast for Saturday looks better this week and table-toppers Sedgwick will hope to retain their 100% record despite missing four players away at Kirkby Lonsdale.. Chris Evans will keep wicket. Heysham are without Sam Calverley for their local derby with Morecambe 2nds while the mercurial Chris Dixon returns for Burneside at Warton for his first appearance since the pandemic. After defeat at Sedgwick Shireshead face Bare at Clifton Park.

Last week Sedgwick maintained their perfect start to the season with a fine three wicket win against Shireshead. Joe Cunliffe (36), Rick Hamblett (31) and Joe Oliver (46) enabled the visitors to post a challenging 162/9 although the hoped for acceleration didn’t come as Sedgwick’s Oliver Sanday took 3/17 from 9 overs. Robbie Tattersall (24) and Lee Tattersall (46) took the reply to 71/1 before Jack Cunnington (4/47) reduced them to 115/6. The dangerous Chris Evans was at the crease though and he likes batting against Shireshead. With 5 fours and 5 sixes the powerful allrounder scored an unbeaten 58 to win the game by 3 wickets and with 19 balls remaining. Three points behind in second place are Heysham who needed their allrounders Sam Calverley (30) and Riley Wilson (23) to get them to 146 at Arnside as Chris Howsley took 3/48. Calverley (5/12) then disposed of Arnside for 44 together with Jamie Cassidy (3/21) and Wilson (2/4).

Morecambe 2nds beat Carnforth 2nds by 3 wickets to gain their first win in the Westmorland League since 1951. After an early wicket for Woodburn (3/36) Jamie Holmes (43) and James Lambert (46) added 92 to put Morecambe in control and although the middle order stuttered against Hill (3/32) they were able to win by 3 wickets with 7 overs to spare.
