Teams and Clubs for 2023

Clubs in the Westmorland Cricket League are starting to gear up ahead of the new season.

The historic League sees Morecambe 2nds replace Westgate 1st team in Division 1, and there are four new teams in the Fourth Division – Appleby Eden 3rds, Burneside 3rds, Heysham 3rds and Shireshead & Forton 4ths.

In 2022, the records show that exactly 999 people played competitive cricket in the League. Our clubs are friendly, welcoming places at the heart of our communities and welcome players of all abilities and ages.

Many of our clubs now provide All-Stars as an entry point for 5–8-year-olds to experience our national summer sport, and enter age group teams up to the age of 19. Several clubs have started third teams which play on Sundays as a means of introducing young players into senior cricket. More clubs are starting women’s and girl’s teams and this season for the first time there will be an 8-a-side women’s competition played with a softball. Several women played in the main League competitions last season with Lauren Burgess of Bare CC winning the 4th Division bowling averages.

As well as playing members, our clubs are always on the lookout for volunteers, whether that’s to help with the ground, or as scorers or as umpires.

The 2023 season starts on Saturday 15 April. Anyone who wants to get involved in cricket, including those who have recently moved into the area, can find details of what their local club is offering here https://1drv.ms/x/s!AmvZsxLpjefHgfAfNZQZw41iF0fVDQ?e=2aLZ5G
