Sedgwick extend their lead

Sedgwick extended their lead at the top of Division 1 to 10 points with a 6 run win against Westgate. A controlled 53 from Chris Evans helped Sedgwick post 128/8 after being 71/7 with Dylan Conroy (4/18) and Zak Buchanan (3/37) causing problems. Jonny Matthews (3/24) and Richard Hanson (3/24) reduced Westgate to 32/3, but Dylan Conroy (24) and the precocious Joe Bradshaw (22) added 30, before both fell to Hanson. Phil Harvey (24 not out) got Westgate within range, but Lee Tattersall (3/26) took three quick wickets, before Evans removed the last man. Arnside suffered their first defeat of the season after scoring 225/7 with Mike Shepherd (49), Ben Lenton (41), Adam Richardson (55) and Nobby Lee (34) all contributing, Archit Bhardwaj taking 3/36. In recent times Bare would have quailed at such a target and at 14/2 their prospects were bleak, but Robbie White (50) and John Hughes added 95. Bhardwaj (37) helped Hughes to take the score to 169 before he fell to Rob Shepherd (4/66) who took two more quick wickets. Hughes though continued to bat imperiously, and he took Bare to a memorable 4 wicket win with one ball to spare, finishing on 96 not out, hitting 12 fours and a six. Bare skipper, Richard Neville (10 not out), who was his ally at the crease, described it as the best game of cricket he’s ever been involved in.

Kendal 2nds are in second place after Joseph Dodds’ 6/19 bowled out Sedbergh School 2nds for 116, Tom Fraine making 35. Harry Lee (25) top scored as the target was reached for the loss of 7 wickets. It meant a double loss over the weekend for the schoolboys as on Saturday, Lewis Plackett scored 55 and then took 5/36 in Heysham’s 63 run win. Andy Powers (42) and Andy Hill (32) contributed to 165, Benjamin Starling taking 4/40. Only George Aldersley (34) had an answer as Jamie Cassidy 4/21) combined with Plackett. Shireshead collapsed to 59/8 against Warton with Graeme Crowther taking a season’s best 5/17. Paul Coulton (28) enabled the home side to reach 107. At 53/4 Shireshead were still in the game, but Tom Barnfield (36 not out) and Bradley Gosling (27 not out) sealed the win for Warton. Burneside beat Trimpell comprehensively by 9 wickets with tyro fast bowler Oscar Coxon (3/14) and Ben Phillips (3/7) posing insolvable problems. Phillips made 33 not out as Burneside reached the target of 57 in 7 overs. Milnthorpe beat Kirkby Lonsdale by 1 run. Harvey Williams took 5/19 as Milnthorpe were all out for 114, Phil Bovis top scoring with 28. Openers Williams (39) and Matthew Percy (23) gave Kirkby a great start, but the still depleted visitors were heart-breakingly just short of a first win as Mike Wills (5/28) and James Parkinson (3/19) snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

Brendan Herron (105) scored a hundred against Netherfield 3rds in a 137 run win as Holme opened up a 15 point gap at the top of Division 2, his brother Richard making 39. Silverdale are in second place after a thumping 165 run win against a scratch Shireshead 2nds. Jon Mason (46), Robert Reghelini (37), Rob Letcher (56) and Steve Beck (32 not out) all contributed to 192/9, Mike Mead taking 4/52. No one made double figures as Shireshead succumbed to 27 all out, Phil Mason taking 4/6 and Jon Mason 5/14. High flying Coniston had their wings clipped by Ambleside in the Lakes derby. Pete Southworth (52), Barny Wileman (32) and Paul Johnson (49) were to the fore as the home side totalled 187/9, Mike Burton taking 3/42. Wileman (7/32) then proceeded to run through Coniston’s prolific top order. From 48/8 there was no escape and although Sam Eccles (28) hit out, Coniston were bowled out for 91. Will Anderson (63) and Bob Davies (69) added 103 for the first wicket for Cartmel at home to Carnforth 2nds. Alfie Hill (3/52) and Gary Baxendale (3/25) pegged back the middle order, but 186 was too much for Carnforth, who despite 32 for Louis Rogerson, were all out for 88, Joe Cowperthwaite taking 5/16. Dan Lawson took 3/13 to restrict Westgate 2nds to 122/8, Steve Creed (36) top scoring for the home side. Ryan McMenamin (4/19) and Jacob Vaughan (3/11) wreaked havoc with the Sedgwick upper order, but Paul Sanday (27), junior Matthew Bailey (24) dug in before Richard Haddath (19 not out) gave the visitors their first win of the season. Josh Capstick took 3/21 as Windermere were all out for 79, Declan Britton making 16. Graham Kellett (25) and Thomas Duke (23) secured the 5 wicket win for Ingleton.

Heysham 2nd XI top Division 3 with Chris Boak (77 not out), Dave Parker (90) and Aiden Yates (36 not out) fuelling 228/2 against Milnthorpe 2nds who could only muster 57, Boak and Parker taking 4/20 and 3/6 respectively to complete fine all round performances. Morecambe 3rds are on their heels after bowling out Holme 2nds for 28, Mark Armistead 4/7 and Alex Hill 3/10 before winning by 9 wickets. Galgate’s Matthew Cooper (4/24) and Rob Speak (3/25) bowled out Bolton le Sands for 126, Simon Brown making 32 before Danny Brighouse (36) and Speak (68 not out) knocked off the target within 15 overs. Matt Butel (64) made exactly half of Leven Valley’s runs against Silverdale 2nds as David James took 5/49 for the visitors. David Hones made 38, but with Butel taking 5/30, he couldn’t prevent a 23 run defeat. Stu Burrow made 40 for Trimpell 2nds as they scored 128/5 against Carnforth 3rds, Chris Hogg taking 3/12. His brother Liam then made 58 and Sam Tomlinson (38) as Carnforth won by 6 wickets.

Bare 2nds are top of Division 4 after Lauren Burgess (3/7) and Zak Albon (3/3) bowled out Ingleton 2nds for 22 and winning by 9 wickets. Second place Burneside 2nds beat Sedbergh School 3rds by 21 runs. Dineshmanickam Annadurai (4/10) kept up his good form for Morecambe 4ths and with Ethan Pickard taking 3/25, Coniston 2nds were dismissed for 75.
