British Rose Cricket Finals Day at Milnthorpe CC

The highlight of the weekend should be the British Rose Cricket finals day at Milnthorpe on Sunday. Holme are at full strength and their batting line up, led by the in-form Brendan Herron, oozes talent, but Sedgwick 2nds shouldn’t be underestimated. In Matthew McVey, Adam Kershaw, Matt Salisbury and Dan Lawson they have quality players who will be hoping to make an impact. Shireshead 2nds are on a strong run, and Mike Mead has been able to select a balanced side.watch out for Rick Hamblett who is a fine batsman and wicketkeeper who has joined the club this season. With Barny Wileman at the helm, Ambleside can never be discounted, and with the likes, of Paul Johnson and Ben McGregor they are far from a one man team. Expect a day of fine cricket with any one of the four teams having a chance of lifting the trophy.

In the League today, Westgate face a challenging trip to Burneside while Heysham will be confident of gaining points at Milnthorpe. In Division 2, second place Shireshead 2nds travel to third place, Cartmel. Victory for the Forton club would end any realistic possibility of,promotion for Cartmel.

As well as the Finals Day, Warton CC is tomorrow hosting charity games in memory of Colin Bolton. Let’s hope the weather is kinder than the forecasts.
