Funeral details for Brian Gudgeon

By Tim Mansfield

Former Silverdale, Westgate and Lancaster player, groundsman and coach.

For anyone who grew up playing cricket in the last three decades of the 20th Century, Brian Gudgeon was a ubiquitous figure coaching, organising teams, running them the countryside and nurturing a love of cricket in more than one generation of young players.

As a young man he captained Silverdale to the 4th Division Championship in the 1960s before a spell at Westgate, and many many years at Lancaster where as well as his administrative duties around the club, he led the fourth team which then played its home matches at Marsh Point. Brian batted in the lower middle order most of the time, the best place to support young players taking their first steps in senior cricket and would bowl some handy overs of off spin when required. Our condolences go to Damian and the rest of his family.

Brian’s funeral will take place on Wednesday, November 15th, at 11:00 AM at Thurnham Catholic Church, postcode LA2 0DT. Following the church service, there will be an internment at Scotforth Cemetery
